The asbestos contractor website checklist: 16 checks buyers and AI tools run.

Before a facilities manager, housing officer or AI assistant shortlists an asbestos contractor, they run the same checks, in the same order. Here are all 16, grouped into the four stages of our Four Stage Clearance. Go through them with your own website open, or let the interactive version score it for you.

Stage 1

Found

Can buyers and AI tools find you for your services and towns?

  1. 1. Page one for your main service plus your main townSearch "asbestos removal" or "asbestos survey" with your town in a private window. If you are not on page one, a buyer searching that way will not see you.
  2. 2. 20 or more Google reviews that mention the jobThe local map is ranked largely on reviews. Ask every customer to mention what you removed and where. Read the guide
  3. 3. A separate page for each serviceLicensed removal, non-licensed work, surveys, testing, encapsulation and garage roofs each need their own page to rank for their own search.
  4. 4. Real area pages for the towns you coverEach page describes the local building stock and your work there. A list of towns in the footer does not count. Read the guide
Stage 2

Trusted

Can a buyer or an AI assistant verify you in a minute?

  1. 5. HSE licence number and expiry in text on the homepageNot a logo. A number a buyer can check against the HSE register, with the expiry date. Read the guide
  2. 6. Memberships and accreditation linked to the registerARCA, ACAD, UKATA or UKAS, each linked to your entry so the claim can be confirmed.
  3. 7. Insurance types and levels statedPublic liability and contract works cover with the levels, not just "fully insured".
  4. 8. Prequalification schemes with their levelCHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline or SMAS, matching what the scheme register shows. Read the guide
Stage 3

Shortlisted

Does your site prove you have done their kind of job?

  1. 9. Case studies with building, scope and outcomeBuilding type, material, method, constraints, timescale and clearance result. Three good ones beat fifty photos.
  2. 10. Pages for the sectors you want more ofSocial housing, schools, healthcare and industrial each have their own rules. Show you know them.
  3. 11. Policies a buyer can downloadHealth and safety, quality and environmental policies and a method statement overview.
  4. 12. Named supervisors and surveyors with qualificationsCompetence attached to people, which buyers and AI tools both treat as evidence.
Stage 4

Contacted

Is it easy to get in touch once they have decided?

  1. 13. A quote form with six fields or fewerEvery extra field loses enquiries. Name, contact, postcode, job and a photo upload are enough.
  2. 14. Tap-to-call on mobileMost visitors are on a phone. The number should dial with one tap from every page.
  3. 15. A stated response time"We reply within one working day" turns a hesitant visitor into an enquiry.
  4. 16. Loads in under three seconds on a phoneTest it free on PageSpeed Insights. If the mobile score is red, people leave before the page appears.

Score each check two for yes, one for partly, none for no. A stage clears at 6 out of 8; 24 or more out of 32 is a cleared site.

Questions about the checklist

How do I score my website against the checklist?

Give each of the 16 checks two points for yes, one for partly and none for no. A stage clears at six out of eight, and the site scores out of 32: under 13 is not cleared, 13 to 23 is partly cleared and 24 or more is cleared. The interactive version does the scoring for you in about three minutes.

What score do most asbestos contractor websites get?

Most sites we review score between 10 and 16 out of 32. The commonest pattern is a pass on Contacted, because every site has a phone number, and a fail on Trusted, because almost none put the licence number in text.

Which checks should I fix first?

Usually the Trusted stage. It is the cheapest to fix, often a single accreditations page, and it is the stage AI assistants weigh most when deciding which firms to name.
