Independent site audits: the proof asbestos clients ask for, and how to show it online.

Anyone can write a policy. Far fewer contractors can show that their live jobs have been inspected by someone who does not work for them. Clients increasingly ask for exactly that evidence, and most websites never mention it. Here is what independent auditing involves, what the latest figures show and how to turn your audit record into a reason to shortlist you.

Key takeaways
  • ARCA carried out 444 audits on live licensed jobs between January and July 2026, and 812 over the 2025 to 2026 year, of which 666 were unannounced.
  • Members reported a 30% improvement in average site audit scores, with failure rates halved.
  • Clients increasingly ask for evidence that licensed work has been checked by somebody other than the contractor. An internal inspection does not answer that.
  • Your audit record is some of the strongest proof you have, and almost no contractor publishes it.
  • Explain the scheme, state your results honestly and show recognition such as audit awards on a dedicated page.

Why independent audits carry weight

A contractor can write an excellent health and safety policy and still run a poor site. That is why the evidence buyers value most is an inspection of live work by someone who reports to an independent body rather than to the contractor. As the autumn issue of ARCA News puts it, an internal inspection, however diligent, does not answer the client's question.

Trade association audit schemes exist to provide that assurance. ARCA's figures for the 2025 to 2026 year show 812 audits, 666 of them unannounced, and a 30% improvement in average member audit scores with failure rates halved. Between January and July 2026, its auditors visited 444 live licensed jobs, and the supervisors and managers audited rated the auditors 9.8 out of 10 on average, with "professional" and "fair" the words used most. Other licensed removal associations run their own audit schemes; the point holds whichever you belong to.

Why it is missing from most websites

Look at a dozen licensed contractor websites and you will usually find an association logo in the footer and nothing else. The logo says you are a member. It says nothing about what membership involves, that your sites are inspected unannounced, or how you score. A buyer comparing three contractors, or an AI assistant asked which firms are well run, has nothing to go on. We explain how buyers use that kind of evidence in what buyers check before shortlisting.

Your audit record is proof. Publish it.

The strongest trust signal most contractors have is the one they never mention.

An Envirorank website includes an accreditations and quality page that explains your audit scheme, states your record and links to your memberships, in text that buyers and AI tools can verify.

How to show it, properly

  1. Explain the scheme in two sentences. Which association, how often audits happen, whether they are unannounced, and that the auditor reports to the association, not to you.
  2. State your record honestly. If you hold an audit award, such as ARCA's Gold Site Audit Award, say so with the year. If you publish scores, publish them consistently, not only the best one.
  3. Link to the association's member list so the membership can be checked. Our guide to showing credentials online covers the structured data that lets search engines and AI tools read it.
  4. Use it in case studies. A line such as "this site received an unannounced association audit during the strip-out" is more persuasive than any adjective.
  5. Commission additional audits on high-profile contracts if your association offers them, and say so. Framework evaluators value exactly that, as we explain in how to win frameworks.

Why this matters for AI search

AI assistants answering "which asbestos removal companies near me are reputable" look for verifiable signals: licence, memberships, independent checks, reviews that mention real jobs. Audit information written in plain text on a dedicated page is exactly the kind of content they can quote. We go into the mechanism in how AI search chooses asbestos companies. Pair it with your HSE licence, which buyers check against the HSE licensing register, and you have the evidence base most competitors lack.

Why this matters now

Your best proof is wasted if nobody can see it.

Independent audits are exactly the kind of evidence buyers and AI tools look for when deciding which contractors to trust. Yet almost no asbestos website explains its audit scheme or record, so that evidence never reaches the facilities manager comparing three firms or the AI assistant asked to recommend one.

As more buyers start their search in ChatGPT or Google AI, the contractors whose websites publish verifiable proof are the ones that get named, and the rest are left out of the answer altogether. A new website with a quality and accreditations page, backed by monthly AI visibility work, turns audits you already pass into work you win. See how AI search chooses asbestos companies.
