Google Business Profile management: why it is now a monthly job.
Setting up your Google Business Profile takes an afternoon. Keeping it working takes a little attention every month, and in 2026 that attention decides more than ever, because Google’s own AI now reads your profile and reviews to decide what to tell buyers about you.
- Google replaced Business Profile Q&A with Ask Maps, a Gemini AI assistant that answers questions using your profile, reviews and photos.
- 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, and 74% only care about reviews from the last three months.
- A profile that was perfect a year ago slowly loses ground as reviews age, photos date and details drift.
- Ongoing management means fresh reviews, personal replies, real project photos, regular posts and accurate details, every month.
- Profile management is built into our SEO and AI visibility plan, alongside new pages, AI visibility checks and a monthly report.

Set up once, managed for good
If you have followed our guide to the 40-minute Google Business Profile fix, your profile already has the right category, matching details and a first set of reviews. That is a strong start. The work that keeps it winning is quieter, and it happens month after month.
A Google Business Profile is not a listing you finish. It is a living shop window that buyers, Google and now AI tools read every time someone searches for asbestos removal, a survey or a lab near them. Fresh reviews, current photos and accurate details keep it working. Left alone, even a great profile slowly slips behind competitors who keep theirs active.
Google’s AI now reads your profile for you
The biggest change came quietly. Google discontinued the Q&A section on Business Profiles and replaced it with Ask Maps, an AI tool powered by Gemini. When someone asks a question about a business in Google Maps, Ask Maps writes an answer using the profile, reviews and photos. BrightLocal found that Gemini reads Google reviews and cites specific mentions of services, experiences and team members in its answers, and regularly shows photos from the listing.
Gemini has also started showing local results from Google Maps as visual cards with photos, ratings and practical details. In other words, your profile is now source material for AI. If it is thin or out of date, the AI has less to say about you, and buyers notice.
Why recent reviews matter more than ever
BrightLocal’s Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 shows how closely people read reviews before choosing a local business:
- 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses.
- 41% always read reviews before choosing a business, up from 29% a year earlier.
- 74% only care about reviews written in the last three months.
- AI search tools are now the third most used way people look for recommendations, behind Google and Facebook.
The survey was carried out with US consumers, but the pattern matches what we see in UK local search. A profile with 40 glowing reviews from 2023 and nothing since looks quieter than a competitor with 15 reviews from this year. Recency is now part of trust.
Replies matter too. According to PinMeTo’s summary of the survey, around half of consumers reject copy-and-paste replies. A short, personal reply that mentions the job and the area reassures the next buyer and gives Google’s AI more useful detail to work with.

What a profile left alone slowly loses
- Reviews age, and buyers increasingly skip anything older than a few months.
- Photos date, or the newest images are random ones uploaded by the public.
- Details drift as services, areas, phone numbers or opening hours change.
- Suggested edits from the public can change your information without you noticing.
- Competitors who post, reply and add photos every month gradually move ahead on the map.
None of this happens overnight, which is exactly why it is easy to miss. The difference shows up months later, as fewer calls from the map and fewer mentions in AI answers.
What good monthly management looks like
| Each month | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Ask recent clients for reviews | Keeps your reviews fresh, so buyers and AI tools see recent work |
| Reply personally to every review | Shows buyers you care and adds detail Google’s AI can use |
| Add real project photos | Proves the work is real and gives Ask Maps better images to show |
| Publish a post | Shares completed jobs, licence renewals and news, and keeps the profile active |
| Check services, areas and details | Keeps your information accurate and consistent with your website |
| Review suggested edits | Stops incorrect changes slipping onto your profile |
| Test what AI says about you | Spots gaps in Ask Maps, ChatGPT and Gemini answers so they can be fixed |
| Report calls, directions and website clicks | Shows exactly what the profile is bringing in |
Reviews should always be requested honestly. The UK now bans fake reviews and hidden incentives, so the best approach is simply to ask every happy client, at the right moment, with an easy link.
Why most contractors struggle to keep it up
It is not that asbestos contractors do not value their profile. It is that the work never stops. Surveys, removals, paperwork and people come first, and the profile slips down the list. Little and often beats a big tidy-up once a year, and that rhythm is much easier to keep when someone else owns it.
How our SEO and AI visibility plan looks after it
Ongoing profile management is built into our SEO and AI visibility plan, alongside everything else that helps you get found and recommended:
- A full Google Business Profile and social media overhaul, then posts, project photos and personal review replies every month.
- A monthly AI visibility check, where we ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI the questions your buyers ask and fix the reasons you are left out.
- One new page or case study every month, built around the searches and towns your buyers use.
- Credentials kept up to date as licences, memberships and insurance change.
- A plain-English report every month showing rankings, AI mentions, calls and enquiries.
It costs £300 a month, with a six-month minimum because that is what results take, then it rolls month to month. Everything we build is yours to keep, so you are always in control.

Questions about Google Business Profile management
What does Google Business Profile management involve?

Google discontinued the Q&A feature and replaced it with Ask Maps, an AI tool powered by Gemini that answers people’s questions using your profile details, reviews and photos.
